The Return Of The Toastie

It’s important that you read toastie in the title to rhyme with Jedi. Even if it makes you sound a little like an Essex native. That way I can justify any inadvertent Star Wars references later. He’s back! After 6 weeks we finally have the Beast back on our drive, and the road looks right again. I had no idea how wound up you could get about a rusty collection of nuts and bolts held together with paint, but it turns out that I’m really quite fond of him these days. Partly, of course, because he is the whole concept behind our business, but also because we’ve been through a lot now, and he has mostly kept on chugging. The Jabberwocky is now better off by one new second hand radiator, one clutch, a half set of spark plugs and a...

The Small Triumphs

The year is wearing on, and even though part of my mind still seems convinced it’s February and dates things accordingly, we are now almost a quarter of the way through the year. The Jabberwocky has picked up some events for the summer, which is excellent news, and I am in an excellent mood as a result of this. I think general Spring feelings also help, with Leamington Spa once more coated in blossom and the garden full of bare earth that might even turn into flowers. The last few weeks have been spattered with good things, in many ways, and these have helped outweigh a certain amount of sadness that would otherwise have nested in the darker reaches of my mind. The good things haven’t been earth-shattering enough to warrant troubling the internet...

My First Christmas

As far as the Jabberwocky is concerned, this is our first Christmas. It has been a busy year, full of all sorts of excitement, and on the whole I would probably rate it a very respectable 9 out of 10, which is a very credible score considering all the niggly little failures that have kept cropping up. And the not having a dog. So, as the Beast rusts gently on the driveway and I wallow on the sofa in a duvet of self pity (and also a duvet) with female-man-flu I thought it was time to do a look back in the year and mention the best bits, perhaps reminisce on the successes and so forth. Unfortunately a gross of angry slugs have assembled in my sinuses to protest against global economic crisis, rendering me apathetic at best, and I’m really just looking forward...

Leamington Spa Food Festival 2011

Oh frabjous day, what a Wednesday to be alive! As you may have guessed from the title, we have our first confirmed event, and as befits a Beast of Leamington it is the food festival right here in town. The festival itself is on the 10th and 11th of September, so no need to clear your diaries just yet, but pencil in the weekend if you’re anywhere nearby, not just to see us (although clearly that would be your prime motivation), but also to come and delight in this rather lovely Warwickshire town and to sample the other local food and drink offerings. This means that by September at the latest we need to be ready. I like the feeling of having a clear goal, it should make the to-do lists a little more finite. It does, of course, throw up some interesting...

Curiosity Killed the Radio Star

It’s official, I am now a managing director of a company that will one day be very sucessful, will probably rescue puppies from burning buildings and is almost certainly carbon neutral. I was under the impression that setting up a company was complicated, but the internet has proven once again that it can do things you never thought possible. Fire up the Paypal account, shoot some money into cyberspace and fill in a form, congratulations, you win one company. The adminitration starts here, as the pitfalls of company ownership apear almost infinite. However, my positive attitude is returning after the magnificent faliure of Monday, give me a good reason to be positive and I think we can pull through. Avast! Our first piece of junkmail as a limited company:...
